The Connemara, Kylemore Abbey & Cong Village Tour
The Connemara & Cong Tour departs daily at 10:00am from the new Galway Coach Station, Fairgreen Rd in Galway City Centre. (FREE collections available for all Galway City Hotels, Hostels & Guesthouses – call 091-566566).
This tour is the perfect way to get off the beaten track and see the hidden Ireland. For the lovers of rugged landscapes and history, this tour is a must. After setting off from Galway, the first stop of the day is at Ross Errily Friary- a hidden but atmospheric 14th century monastery before entering Cong Village. While there, you will have time to explore Cong Woods as well as the famously romantic Ashford Castle, which has seen its fair share of famous faces. If it’s good enough for James Bond… You may of course recognise Cong for being the location for the 1950s classic movie, ‘The Quiet Man’ and walk in the footsteps of John Wayne himself, or simply watch the world and the ducks go by as you have a coffee on the edge of Lough Corrib- the largest lake in the Republic of Ireland.
The Hidden Gem of Connemara
Entering Connemara on the Lough Nafooey route allows you to see the stark beauty of the hidden valleys and rugged mountains of Connemara. The drive along the Killary Fjord and the village of Leenane at the bottom of it make for a beautiful photostop. The tour then continues to the beautiful Kylemore Abbey where we break for lunch and sightseeing for 2 Hours. You’ll have plenty of time to explore the Victorian buildings, Walled Garden and Neo-Gothic Church as well as enjoy a tasty homemade lunch or some of the award winning scones in the Garden Teahouse. Entrance into Kylemore Abbey & Gardens is not included in the tour price and is an optional fee, (Fee During the 2017/8 season is €8. Fee from 1st of Janurary 2019 is €9.50 per person).
Leaving Kylemore late afternoon we drive through some of the most stunning vistas in Connemara; the Inagh Valley, Maam Cross & Oughterard completing the circuit of Lough Corrib before arriving home to Galway City.
A truly magical day out in typical Irish countryside- let us bring it to life and share with you the many legends which make Connemara folklore so fascinating.
